Military Officer Pays it Forward After an Act of Kindness

This act of kindness has rippled across the nation, now to Myrtle Beach!

Wednesday is our favorite part of the week where we dedicate this time to spread kindness one story at a time from around the world to our backyards. Jason Walter who has been on our show with the Walber Foundation shared this story that stretches across the globe and has a local connection.  This act of kindness has made national news.  A high school class mate of Jason who was serving in the military wrote to tell him about an act of kindness a Commanding Officer experienced.  While dining at the local Cracker Barrel the officer received a $20 dollar bill along with a note. An 8-year old Myles Eckert had found the money earlier outside the restaurant, in which he had planned to spend it on video games  Then the boy saw an officer in uniform walk in.  It reminded him of his dad.  Sgt. Andy Eckert, who was killed in Iraq.  Lt Col Frank Daley of the Air National Guard was the man in uniform who received the note,

“Dear soldier, my dad was a soldier.  He’s in heaven now. I found this $20 in the parking lot when we got here. We like to pay it forward in my family. Thank you for your service, Love Myles, a Gold Star Kid. “

This moved the officer so much that he went back and shared it with his squadron.  Jason’s classmate was in that squadron.   The classmate wrote to Jason in Myrtle Beach to share the story, as he recalled how Jason instilled these very concepts in his life and in the lives of others.   The story was later told by CBS News and just this week gave an update.  Lt Col Daley gave the money away.  That $20 has been multiplied several times and a foundation has been established for kids who lose a parent to war, The Snowball express.  Donations total a quarter of a million dollars.
