Moving to new areas can be challenging. A travel blog “Our Town America” has tackled the issue and published a list of how to fit in when moving to certain areas. Myrtle Beach made their list. So if you’re new to our area, here are a few things according to them you need to know.
- Snow means shutdowns. We don’t get to see it that much so we get really excited when it snows. And everything closes. Try not to complain.
- “Carolina” is the team in Columbia. We refer to the University of South Carolina as “Carolina.” If you want to anger a local, start an argument about how “Carolina” is actually in Chapel Hill.
- We use area nicknames a lot. Myrtle Beach is located on “The Grand Strand” while Florence is in the “Pee Dee.” You will hear these are nicknames a lot.
- If you order tea here, assume it’s sweet. Unsweet tea with a packet of sweet n’ low may have been the standard in your old hometown. If you order tea in this city, you should assume it will not only be sweet but will be delicious!
- It’s humid here. All year. We all have frizzy hair and sweat dripping down our shirts. Get inside, get used to it and adapt!
