FDA Could Approve Mixing and Matching of Covid Boosters
The FDA says getting the same vaccine as a booster is preferable but, it is not planning to recommend one shot over the other.
The FDA could allow people to mix and match covid-19 shots for a booster. Reports say the administration is preparing to okay getting a different brand of booster shot than the one a person initially received. The mixing and matching of shots would be a way to provide flexibility for those seeking to maintain protection against the coronavirus as well as helping states with supply issues. The FDA says getting the same vaccine as a booster is preferable but, it is not planning to recommend one shot over the other. The National Institutes of Health presented early information to the administration’s vaccine advisers last Friday from an ongoing study that showed it didn’t matter which vaccine people got first versus which booster. Any combination was deemed safe and showed a revved up immune response. Mixing boosters may also provide a strong response to the Delta variant.
