Ahmaud Arbery Case Begins With Jury Selection

The three men who are accused of chasing down and killing Ahmaud Arbery are set to stand trial for murder this week and jury selection began today. Gregory McMichael his son Travis and their neighbor William ‘Roddie’ Bryan Jr. are charged with malice and felony murder and have pleaded not guilty. They also face charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.

Arbery was fatally shot on February 23, 2020 while out jogging in Brunswick Georgia in an incident which was partly captured on video. The McMichael’s said they were conducting a citizen’s arrest on Arbery who they suspected of burglary and that Travis McMichael shot him with a shot gun in self defense. Bryan recorded the video and allegedly hit Arbery with his truck after joining the McMichaels in the chase. The McMichaels and Bryan have also been indicted on federal hate crimes and attempted kidnapping charges and have pleaded not guilty to those.
