CDC Recommends Covid-19 Booster for High Risk Workers
The first Covid-19 booster shots are being administered today following a decision by the CDC! Early this morning, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensly recommended boosters for a broader group of people which includes those 18 to 64 who are at increased risk of Covid-19 because of their workplace or institutional setting in addition to older adults, long-term care facility residents and people with underlying health concerns were also named.
The CDC’s recommendation includes those made by it’s advisory committee on immunization practices yesterday which voted to recommend boosters for residents of long term care facilities and those age 65 and older who received both of their Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines at least 6 months ago and people ages 50 to 64 with underlying medical conditions. The CDC also endorsed the advisors recommendation that people ages 18 to 49 with underlying medical conditions may receive their booster based on their individual benefits and risks. Earlier this week, the FDA also gave it’s approval to certain individuals.
