COVID-19 Booster Shot Plan Unveiled By Health Experts

U.S. health officials and medical experts announced yesterday that Covid-19 booster shots will be offered this fall following authorization from the FDA and sign off from the CDC. In a statement,  CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and FDA Acting Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock said that the authorized Covid-19 vaccines are ‘remarkably effective in reducing risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death even against the Delta variant. But it’s been made clear that protection against the virus begins to decrease over time.’

The initial booster doses will be for the Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna vaccines but officials noted that they anticipate booster shots will also be needed for people who received the Johnson and Johnson single dose vaccine.
More data on that is expected in the next few weeks. The CDC also said that the FDA will review data on boosters among adolescents to determine whether or not those younger than 18 will be a part of the rollout.
