FDA to Announce Authorization of Covid-19 Vaccine Booster Shots for Immunocompromised People

The third shot would be approved for both Pfizer and Moderna.

Sometime within the next two days, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to announce that it’s authorizing Covid-19 vaccine booster shots for some people who are immunocompromised. According to a spokesperson, “The FDA is closely monitoring data as it becomes available from studies administering an additional dose of the authorized Covid-19 vaccines to immunocompromised individuals, the agency, along with the CDC, is evaluating potential options on this issue, and will share information in the near future.” The third shot would be approved for both Pfizer and Moderna. The FDA must give approval for the vaccines to be used in new ways outside of the existing two-dose authorization. Advisors for the CDC will meet tomorrow to discuss booster doses of the vaccine and additional doses for about 9 million Americans who are immunocompromised.
