Residents in California Evacuate as Dixie Fire Continues to Spread
As the Dixie fire continues to burn in California, more residents are being evacuated from their homes. In a statement from the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office yesterday, around 39% of residents in Plumas County are under evacuation orders as officials battle the second largest fire in state history. Plumas is one of four counties under the blaze. The fire has been active for 25 days and increased in activity yesterday with hot, dry and windy conditions in the area.
Last week, the town of Greenville was devastated as flames swept through the area. Nearly every business in the city collapsed or has been gutted. As of yesterday, no deaths were reported in connection to the fire but according to the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office, four people are unaccounted for. Currently there are 11 fires burning across the state and throughout the country and as of yesterday, there were 107 large fires in 15 states and more than 2.2 million acres have burned.
