Vote Expected on Infrastructure Bill as Early as Tomorrow

On Saturday, the Senate voted to break a filibuster and advance the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package. Eighteen GOP Senators joined Democrats to shut down debate on the bill Saturday afternoon. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced on the floor that the Senate would reconvene the following day to resume consideration for the bill. Yesterday evening, the Senate voted 68-29 to invoke cloture on the legislation and set up a final vote after the 30-hour post-closure time that expires tomorrow morning. Following the vote tomorrow, the Senate will shift their attention to the budget resolution, which needs to be passed by both chambers of congress before Democrats can move on their separate $3.5 trillion package.

According to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, “the two track process is moving along, it’s taken a while, but it’s gonna be worth it, as, hopefully, we pass both bills very, very soon.” Lawmakers in the Senate have been nearing a final vote on the bill for the past few weeks while considering 22 amendments to the package last week. That was after the final legislative text was finalized the week before.
