Historic Town of Greenville California Destroyed by Fire

The Dixie wildfire has wiped out a historic town in California. The largest active wildfire in the state swept through Greenville on Wednesday with alarming speed and fierce winds putting everyone who didn’t evacuate in danger. The Dixie fire is one of 12 large active fires in the state that have seared more than 475,000 acres according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

U.S. Representative Doug LaMalfa, who represents the area said “We lost Greenville tonight. And there’s just not words for how us in government haven’t been able to get the job done, we will take up the fight even harder. And more so, we got to win this; we got to stop this. We got to get DC to pay attention, we got to get Sacramento to pay attention.” The Dixie fire has burned more than 278,000 acres in Butte and Plumas counties since it started in mid-July and was 35% contained as of Wednesday night.
