Negotiations on $1 Trillion Infrastructure Deal Finalized
A bipartisan group of senators reached an agreement yesterday on key points that had been holding up the massive infrastructure package. The full bill includes $550 billion in new federal investments in America’s infrastructure which is no where near the $2.25 trillion package that President Biden unveiled in March. That measure known as the American Jobs Plan included money for roads, bridges and public transportation. The new deal calls for $110 billion for roads, bridges and infrastructure projects, $40 billion for bridge repair, replacement and rehabilitation and $17.5 billion for major projects that would be too large or complex for traditional funding programs. It also includes $11 billion for transportation safety and $1 billion to reconnect communities that were divided by highways and other infrastructure as well as funds for many other transit and rail, airports, ports and waterways and broadband upgrades.
Changes can still be made before the bill is voted on and the Senate could make amendments to the texts and then it must be sent to the House for approval before reaching bidens desk for his signature. Some of the unspent Covid-19 relief funds would be redirected to the infrastructure bill but it would also target corporate users and raise money by strengthening tax enforcement on crypto currency.
