New Data From The CDC Shows Covid-19 Cases Down As More Americans Get Vaccine
Good news when it comes to the Coronavirus pandemic, most of the adult population in the United States has received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. The average national vaccination rate has also gotten back up to more than a million vaccines distributed per day after falling short of that threshold last week. According to data from the CDC, only 41.9% of Americans have been fully vaccinated as of yesterday but most adults, 63.5%, have received at least one dose of the vaccine. And so far, 13 states have reached President Biden’s goal of vaccinating 70% of adults in the U.S. with at least one dose by July 4th. Experts are now focusing their attention towards children who are not yet vaccinated. Adolescents account for about 25% of total Covid-19 cases in the United States.
Associate Medical Director at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Dr. Richina Bicette said “as adults get vaccinated and become more protected and immune to this virus, the virus is still in the community looking for a vulnerable host and pediatric patients fit that description.” Severe Coronavirus diagnoses’ are not just limited to older Americans, a study by the CDC examined over 200 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 who were hospitalized due to the virus and the report said while there were no deaths, nearly a third were admitted to ICU’s and roughly 5% required a ventilator.
