Kamala Harris Begins First Foreign Trip Since Becoming Vice President

Kamala Harris is taking her first foreign trip since becoming Vice President. Harris will be holding meetings in Guatemala’s capital before flying to Mexico City this evening. With this trip, she is hoping to further solidify the administration’s strategy toward migration. During the meetings, she will focus on border security, corruption and advancing economic opportunities. The trip comes as the number of migrants arriving at the U.S. Mexico border has yet to slow. In April, the U.S Customs and Border Protection encountered more than 178,000 migrants trying to cross the border.

Yesterday, Vice President Harris had to return to Joint Base Andrews after her plane experienced a ‘technical issue’ during flight. The print pooler on board Air Force Two reported an ‘unusual noise that came from the landing gear when taking off’ and added that the landing at Joint Base Andrews was ‘completely normal.’  Harris boarded a new Air Force Two at 4:19 p.m. and the plane departed shortly after, she was only two hours behind schedule.
