Protests Continue For The Release Of Body Camera Footage Of The Fatal NC Shooting
An update on the unrest in North Carolina…. A new video of Pasquotank Sheriff’s Deputies arriving at Andrew Brown Jr’s home has been released. It shows that no more than four seconds passed between their arrival and when shots were fired. Authorities have not said what led officers to fire and have not released body camera footage of the incident to the public but the family and their attorneys were able to see a 20 second clip of his arrest this week. They can’t release the footage without a court order. Yesterday, the family held a press conference to release the findings of an independent autopsy which found Brown had been shot four times in the right arm and once in the back of the head.
The FBI also confirmed that it will investigate the killing. A spokesman said “Agents will work closely with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina and the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice to determine whether federal laws were violated.” Last night, protesters gathered for a 7th day demanding answers in the shooting of Brown. Elizabeth City declared a state of emergency Monday and a curfew was started last night at 8 p.m. A hearing for release of the video footage is scheduled for today.
