President Biden Aiming To Reduce Emissions By As Much As 52% By 2030
Speaking of President Biden, he kicked off a virtual climate summit in D.C. this morning. 40 other leaders from around the world will attend the two day event. The President started by announcing a cut in greenhouse gas emissions and committed the United States to reduce them by 50% to 52% by 2030. The goals are part of the Paris Climate Agreement that Biden rejoined after taking office but they are non-binding and so far, the administration hasn’t rolled out a plan to reach them. According to officials, the Biden administration reached the final number in a meeting at the White House yesterday morning.
This morning Biden also laid out his vision for a greener economy and said “that’s where we’re headed as a nation, and that’s what we can do if we take action to build an economy that’s not only more prosperous but healthier, fairer and cleaner for the entire planet,” He added “these steps will set America’s economy to net-zero emissions by no later than 2050.” Biden also called on other world leaders to take action with their own countries to curb emissions.
