President Biden To Make Formal Announcement About Pulling Troops Out Of Afghanistan

Later today President Biden will announce his intentions to withdraw the remaining U.S. troops from Afghanistan by September 11th. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Al-Qaeda attacks on the U.S. Currently, there are about 2,500 U.S. troops in Afghanistan where about 2,400 U.S. service members have been killed in the line of duty and thousands more have been wounded. President Biden will emphasize “It’s time to end America’s longest war” and “It’s time for American troops to come home.” Previously, former President Trump declared the deadline of May 1st for the withdrawal agreement with the Taliban. In a statement last month, the Taliban threatened to resume hostilities against foreign troops in Afghanistan if they did not meet the deadline.
