FEMA to Offer Funeral Reimbursements to Families Affected by Covid-19 Deaths

FEMA will be assisting  families who lost loved ones to COVID-19. The massive funeral assistance program begins today. It will allow families to be reimbursed up to $9,000 per funeral of a COVID-19 caused death. Households that lost more than one family member will be eligible for up to $35,000. The reimbursement will go to those who paid for funeral expenses after January 20, of 2020. Applicants will have to provide paperwork on funeral costs and the cause of death. They will also need to be prepared with a list of information when they call FEMA to register. Those wanting to apply can call a toll-free number to speak with a representative between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

People can call a toll-free number 844-684-6333 to complete an application with a FEMA representative.

Be prepared with

  • SSN and DOB for the applicant and the deceased individual
  • Current mailing address and phone number for the applicant
  • Location or address where the COVID-19 victim passed away
  • Information about burial or funeral insurance policies
  • Information about other funeral assistance received, such as donations
  • CARES Act grants and help from voluntary organizations
  • Applicant’s bank account information
