U.S. Houses Passes Two Immigration Bills
Yesterday, the House passed two immigration bills. One that could create a pathway to citizenship for millions of ‘dreamers’ and another to allow green cards and overhaul protections for farm workers. The first bill, ‘The American Dream and Promise Act’ would provide a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and those granted temporary protection from deportation. It passed 228 to 197 with only 9 Republicans in favor. The second bill ‘The Farm Workforce Modernization Act’ creates a system for undocumented workers to apply for a green card if they pay a $1,000 fine and work an additional 4 to 8 years in agriculture. It passed 247 to 174 with 30 Republicans voting in favor. They will now advance to the senate.
