ICE Investigating Car Crash That Killed Over a Dozen in California

ICE is investigating after a vehicle collision in California resulted in over a dozen deaths. An SUV was struck by a semi truck at an intersection on a rural road. When authorities arrived at the “chaotic” scene yesterday morning, they found 12 people already deceased and scattered across the road. First responders discovered the SUV had been altered, so what normally sat 8 people was carrying 25. The remaining survivors, including the truck driver, were hospitalized for their injuries where one more SUV occupant passed away. As of now, it’s not clear where the SUV came from or where it was going, but the incident occurred 10 miles north of the Mexican border in an area known for human smuggling. The Mexican Consulate also confirmed that at least 10 of the victims were Mexican nationals. This has led police to believe this may have been part of a larger smuggling operation which sparked ice involvement. A further investigation is needed to also determine what caused the deadly crash.
