Warning: Don’t Ease Safety Precautions as 3rd Vaccine is Shipped Out

As Johnson and Johnson vaccines begin shipping out today, officials are urging Americans not to ease safety precautions. Shortly after the FDA granted the company Emergency Use Authorization, Johnson and Johnson immediately got to work shipping out 4 million doses for this week. The first recipients were inoculated beginning this morning. Dr. Anthony Fauci is urging anyone who can get it to do so, reaffirming that the vaccine is 85% effective at fighting against severe disease and 100% effective in preventing hospitalization and death. But with all this good news, Americans should remain wary, says head of the CDC, Dr. Rochelle Walensky. This is largely due to the new and more easily transmissible Covid-19 variants that have been discovered, which includes the brand new one from right out of New York City that has shown to be more resistant against the vaccines. While new daily case numbers have been gradually declining, all the progress we’ve made could be lost, and recovery further delayed, if people start relaxing safety restrictions.
