Animal Forecasters Predict The Weather
Here’s a few more animals that are thought to predict the weather.
Birds- birds perch instead of fly, if they sense a change in barometric pressure due to a storm. That’s why you see them on power lines before rain or cold temps. They also migrate in the spring and autumn.
Rabbits- If you find a fat rabbit in the fall it means the winter will be super cold.
Cows- If they lay down in a field it indicates rain coming. Bulls entering a pasture first means rain, cows entering first means the forecast is uncertain. Which direction they face is also a good indication. If their tail faces west it means fair skies, a tail facing east means weather will get worse and they graze facing the wind.
Frogs- Frogs croak louder and longer than usual when a storm is on the way. Toads can predict earthquakes by changing where they live.
Crickets- In 1857 a scientist wrote an article about using crickets as thermometers. Count the number of chirps you hear in 14 seconds and add 40 to get an approximate outside temperature. Example: 30 chirps means the temp outside is around 70.
Spiders- When the weather outside becomes cold spiders seek out warmth in your home…
