Protesters Gather in Tacoma, WA After Officer Drove Into a Crowd
Video was captured of a police officer in Washington state driving his SUV into a crowd of people. It happened Saturday night in Tacoma at a street race, where about 100 people watched drivers spinning donuts. Police say when an officer showed up, people surrounded the patrol car and started hitting it. Moments later the police vehicle is seen driving through the crowd. One person was taken to a hospital with unknown conditions. Tacoma Police say that the officer, a 58-year-old man who’s been with the department for nearly 30 years, feared for his safety and was trying to remove himself from an unsafe position. After driving through the crowd, the officer called for medical aid. The interim Police Chief says quote “I am concerned that our department is experiencing another use of deadly force incident and I send my thoughts to anyone injured.” The Tacoma Police Department says the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
