Mayor Calls Indianapolis Shooting a “Mass Murder”
The Indianapolis mayor is calling it, quote, “mass murder”, after a shooting spree in the city left a pregnant woman and four others dead.
Police were called to a reported shooting in the early morning hours yesterday. They found a juvenile with gunshot wounds, who’s since been hospitalized in critical condition. In a nearby home, officers then discovered five people and an unborn child dead. They say the shootings do not appear to be random. Indianapolis mayor Joe Hogsett says he’s coordinating with the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office as they continue to investigate.
According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Randal Taylor, this is the city’s largest mass casualty shooting in more than a decade. As of yesterday afternoon, police said they did not have any named suspects related to the shootings, but that they believe more than one shooter could have been involved. The local chief deputy coroner identified the victims as 42-year olds Kezzie and Raymond Childs; 18 year old Elijah Childs; 13 year old Rita Childs; 19 year old Kiara Hawkins and her baby.
