More than 400,000 Americans have now died from Covid-19 related complications. Almost a year after the virus was first detected in Seattle, the U.S. now holds the record for most amount of deaths and cases globally as we top 24 million infections. Yesterday, California also became the first state to reach 3 million cases, with LA alone hitting one million over the weekend. Things have gotten so bad in the city they’ve decided to temporarily lift air quality limits on cremations as they run out of places to store bodies. Of all of the Covid cases reported in the U.S. since the beginning of last year, more than 60% of them have occurred since Election Day. In that time records have been set for daily infections, deaths and hospitalizations multiple times. 20 states are now also dealing with more contagious Covid-19 variants. Fortunately, it appears the U.S. may finally be on the decline. Last week saw an 11% drop in new cases from the previous week. Infections declined in 35 states and 18 saw a drop in deaths.
