Democrats Unveil Article of Impeachment Against President Trump

Democrats have unveiled an article of impeachment against President Trump. The single article claims the president’s repeated attempts to overturn the election results, including the speech he gave on January 6th, incited the insurrection at the Capitol. A vote will be led today by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after a resolution demanding Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment failed. Yesterday, she granted them exactly 24 hours to do so. If not, the House would introduce a historic second impeachment. Even though President Trump only has 9 days left in office, Democrats feel the move is necessary. For one, they believe the president’s actions cannot go unpunished and want to set a precedent. For another, the president’s impeachment would mean losing his life long benefits including a hefty yearly salary, travel expenses, secret service detail, and his ability to run for a second term. The House intends to hold the impeachment vote within the next week, but the Senate might not be able to hold their vote until after the inauguration.
