Coroner Identifies Florence City Employee Killed in Assault
The Florence city employee killed during an assault at a local park has been identified. 49-year-old Penny Phillips had been working for the city for a month before she was stabbed in a seemingly random attack Monday morning at the Northwest Park Community Center. Hours later, 18-year-old Jawan Crittenden was arrested and charged with attempted murder. His charges were then upgraded to murder after Phillips died in the hospital Monday night. The autopsy revealed the official cause to be from the result of “multiple sharp force injuries incurred in the incident.” Crittenden was denied bond yesterday.
