More States Enact Various Covid-19 Restrictions as Outbreak Worsens

More sweeping restrictions are being introduced nationwide as this latest surge of the coronavirus continues to spread out of control. Over 166,000 new cases were reported yesterday, yet another record breaking high. Hospitalizations have also reached unprecedented highs with more than 73,000 people currently admitted. Chicago’s stay-at-home advisory went into full effect yesterday. Parts of New York have also been put on partial lockdowns, however public schools will remain open for now. North Dakota and Oklahoma’s governors have also introduced mandatory face mask requirements in key public places. More states and cities are following suit as concerning increases are currently being seen in 49 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam. The Northeast and Midwest regions have been hit particularly hard. Over the weekend, leaders from those areas met to discuss private gatherings in particular, which seem to have fueled the devastating spread we’re now seeing. With Thanksgiving fast-approaching, the fear is family celebrations will only make the situation worse.
