Another Pharmaceutical Company Temporarily Suspends Covid-19 Vaccine Trials
A day after Johnson & Johnson temporarily halted their Covid-19 vaccine trials, Eli Lilly and Co. announced they’re doing the same. This also comes a week after they requested FDA Emergency Use Authorization for their monoclonal antibody treatment which was in phase three trials. It’s reported this drug is very similar to the Regeneron one President Trump received as part of his treatment last week. However, Lilly was testing a smaller pool of hospitalized participants and had only released partial results that weren’t peer-reviewed. Now the drug maker claims they’re pausing clinical trials due to “safety concerns”. It’s unclear what exactly those concerns are but again, it’s not uncommon for late-stage trials to hit road bumps. More companies can be expected to do the same as Covid-19 vaccine trials are more rushed than usual. Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases and hospitalizations continue to surge in 36 states. Many health experts are attributing it to small house-hold gatherings.
