Michigan Supreme Court Rules Against Gov. Whitmer’s Restrictive Covid-19 Orders

The Michigan Supreme Court has officially ruled against Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s strict Covid-19 regulations. Over a week ago, a smaller court determined an extension of Whitmer’s executive orders were unconstitutional, adding she had no real power to enforce them past April 30th. This is despite the fact that Covid-19 is still running rampant through the state. In response, Whitmer asked the Supreme Court to grant her more time “to allow for an orderly transition” of responsive measures and to address other pandemic-related issues. Her request was denied. This comes less than a week after the FBI foiled a kidnapping plot involving Whitmer. Those involved were extremely unhappy with her restrictions, believing she was a tyrant. Over a dozen people were arrested for attempting to abduct and possibly kill her and over throw the Michigan government, too. Five of those men are set to make their first court appearance today where a judge will determine if they should remain in detention until their trials.
