Moderna Expects Virus Vaccine Results in November

Moderna says it could get results on its coronavirus vaccine candidate by November. As of Wednesday, the company had enrolled about 84% of the total participants for the phase 3 study on its vaccine. Moderna’s CEO says she hopes to see results by October but a recent dip in the average national cases has made it difficult to hit the amount of infections among trial participants needed in order to see whether the vaccine candidate outperforms the placebo. If the infection rate continues to drop, Moderna says the read out could still happen this year but, will be in December. Meanwhile, Pfizer says there’s a good chance that their results should be ready by late October. Moderna heads say it doesn’t matter who produces results faster, because one drug company cannot supply enough vaccines to stop the pandemic.
