Multiple Investigations Underway After Black Man Fatally Shot by Police in LA
Black Lives Matter protests in Los Angeles have been sparked once more following yet another fatal shooting by police on Monday. 29-year-old Dijon Kizzee was stopped while riding a bike that was “in violation of vehicle codes.” Kizzee ran from officers on foot. It wasn’t long before they caught up with him after which a physical confrontation broke out. When Kizzee punched an officer in the face, a bag he was holding fell to the ground and a black semiautomatic handgun was discovered inside. That was when deputies opened fire. Kizzee was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s unconfirmed, but a civil rights attorney representing his family claims he was shot in the back upwards of 20 times, despite the fact that he never picked up the weapon. The officer’s were not wearing body cameras at the time and Kizzee’s family is demanding their names be released, however the LA County Sheriff’s Office has yet to do so. Multiple independent investigations have been launched in response to the outrage that followed the incident.
