NASA Astronauts Return to Earth Following Historic SpaceX Mission
The astronauts who were apart of the historic SpaceX mission to the International Space Station have returned to earth. NASA astronauts Robert Benhken and Douglas Hurley who operated the SpaceX Crew Dragon, splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday following a two-month long mission. Not only was it was the first manned mission carried out by SpaceX, but it was also the first commercially developed spacecraft in history to successfully carry humans into earth’s orbit. Upon landing, mission control welcomed the astronauts by saying: “Thank you for flying SpaceX.” This mission carries major positive implications for the future of the U.S. and space travel since NASA has not seen a similar mission carried out in over a decade. An emotional Elon Musk said of his achievements yesterday, “This has been 18 years to finally fly. This is the result of an incredible, incredible amount of work from people at SpaceX, people at NASA.”
