President Trump Warns Pandemic “May Get Worse Before it Gets Better”

President Trump warned yesterday the pandemic “may get worse before it gets better” as coronavirus cases near 4 million in the U.S. The president also advocated for the use of face masks during yesterday’s press conference saying “whether you like the mask or not, they have an impact”. This was accompanied by a photo he tweeted of himself wearing a mask. The president’s grim announcement comes as the U.S. reported over 1,000 deaths in a single day for the first time in weeks. COVID-19 hospitalization numbers also hit just over 58,000, paralleling rates that have not been seen since the peak in April. Meanwhile, there continues to be a divide in the Senate as Democrats and Republicans continue to negotiate another stimulus bill with less than three weeks to go before the August recess. The major topics of discussion concerning the predicted one trillion dollar package include unemployment insurance, allocating grant money towards places such as the CDC and the National Institute of Health, and direct payments towards schools.
