Changes Made to Both Republican and Democratic National Conventions
Both the Republican National Convention and the Democratic national convention are making some changes due to concerns over the coronavirus. The Republican Convention in Jacksonville, Florida, next month is getting scaled back amid the surge in cases. The committee’s new plans include smaller crowds, fewer speeches and using both indoor and outdoor venues. For the first three days, attendance will be limited to just the almost 25-hundred regular RNC delegates. On the fourth night, when President Trump accepts the nomination, it will be open to delegates, their guests and alternate delegates. That puts maximum attendance at about 7,000. It looks like the Democratic National Convention has officially moved online. Yesterday the DNC committee told members of congress to cancel any travel plans for this year’s convention. The event was supposed to take place the week of August 17th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. But, the committee said the convention including the voting period will instead take place remotely. Delegates and elected leaders should all plan to conduct their official business virtually. The Biden campaign says he will still deliver his acceptance speech in Milwaukee…and his vice presidential pick will do the same on an earlier night.
