President Trump Scrutinized for Tweet Regarding Elderly Man Pushed by Police

President Trump is facing backlash yet again over one of his tweets. 75-year-old Martin Gugino was peacefully protesting in Buffalo last week when he was shoved by police officers. He fell and hit his head on the pavement, rendering him unconscious, and began bleeding out of his ear. Gugino is reportedly in serous but stable condition. Video of the incident went viral and two officers were suspended without pay pending an internal affairs investigation. The officers were also charged with second-degree assault which they pled not guilty to. 57 other officers on Buffalo’s emergency response team resigned from the team shortly after in support of their colleagues. In a tweet to his 32.4 million followers, the president suggested Gugino could be a “ANTIFA provocater” and said he seemed to fall “harder than was pushed”, implying the entire incident was a setup. Many were outraged because the president made the allegation without citing any evidence. When asked about it, some GOP senators said they either hadn’t read the tweet or did not want to discuss it.
