Independent Autopsy Concludes George Floyd’s Death a Homicide
Experts hired by George Floyd’s family conducted an independent autopsy and concluded his death was a homicide. The official report said 46-year-old Floyd’s cause of death was “asphyxiation from sustained pressure”. This means Floyd’s death was a direct result of that pressure the Minneapolis officer put on his back and neck, which cut blood flow to his brain. Furthermore, the position in which Floyd was placed, on his stomach with his hands cuffed behind his back, also largely contributed to his death. The autopsy did not mention Floyd showed any signs of heart disease. This is in direct contradiction to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s report that said there were “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation.” They determined his cause of death was “cardiopulmonary arrest”, suggesting Floyd’s heart disease and any amount of intoxicants or medications in his system at the time contributed to his death.
