Violent Riots Broke Out in Minneapolis Following George Floyd’s Death

Violent riots broke out in Minneapolis last night over the death of George Floyd. On Monday, police responded to a scene in progress involving a non-violent possible forgery. 46-year-old Floyd was identified as the suspect and taken into custody. During the arrest, Officer Derek Chauvin had Floyd handcuffed and face down in the street. He pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck until he went unconscious and didn’t stop for nine minutes. Floyd later died at the hospital. The entire incident was captured on camera and sparked outrage across the nation. The four officers involved were all fired. However, many believe this is not enough and want all those involved to be charged with murder. Peaceful protests turned violent causing police to use tear gas and rubber bullets. Things quickly escalated and turned into riots last night as stores were burned and looted. One person was also killed in a shooting. Mayor Jacob Frey has asked the governor to deploy the National Guard. He also called for criminal charges against Officer Chauvin.
