WHO Accepts Call to Investigate Pandemic Origins, Response
The World Health Organization has accepted the call to hold an inquiry into the coronavirus pandemic and response. An “impartial, independent and comprehensive” investigation was initially proposed by Australia and the European Union and adopted by the WHO with no objections during the World Health Assembly meeting yesterday. The resolution does not expressly name any country as responsible but a number of nations have accused China of withholding information when the virus was first detected. If found guilty, it could largely effect China’s global standing. Chinese President Xi Jinping said he supports the investigation into the origins of the pandemic and they’re handling of the situation and will remain transparent the entire time. However, he has asked the investigation wait until the virus has been contained. Some have suggested this will give them time to potentially manipulate the results of the investigation.
