Man Who Wore KKK Hood in Grocery Store Will Not Face Charges
The man who wore a KKK hood in a California grocery store will not face charges. The man, who is still unidentified by police, was seen wearing the offensive head piece while shopping at a Vons last week. Photos taken by other customers in the store at the time circulated the internet and sparked major outrage. Upon investigation, the man said he didn’t mean to “make a racial statement”, only that he was frustrated with San Diego County coronavirus restrictions and being told what he can and can’t do. He further added, “It was a mask and it was stupid.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office did not find enough evidence to prove it was a hate crime and therefore did not press any criminal charges. The sheriff’s department said of the incident, “This should serve as a reminder for anyone contemplating wearing or displaying items so closely associated with hate and human suffering that our society does not hold in high regard those who do so.”
