Apple Settles Lawsuit for Half a Billion Dollars

Apple is set to pay half a billion dollars to settle a class action lawsuit brought against them. Several years ago, analysts and customers began accusing the company of tampering with older iPhone updates that would slow down the phones and ultimately force users into upgrading altogether. The company initially claimed the issue stemmed from older lithium-ion batteries that carried glitches which caused the problem. However, in December of 2017, the company finally admitted and apologized for the update tampering and offered battery replacements for $79, which was eventually lowered to $29. The settlement is set to be approved by a judge on April 3rd. If you owned an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus or SE device bought before December 21, 2017, you may be entitled to receive $25 per affected device. Depending on the amount of claims made, Apple could be forced to pay between $310 million and $500 million.
