U.S. Evacuates American Passengers on Quarantined Cruise Ship

The U.S. officially began evacuating Americans off the Diamond Princess cruise ship over the weekend. The ship, which has been under quarantine and docked in Yokohama, Japan for over two weeks, had 356 confirmed cases of the Wuhan coronavirus on board. 70 of those cases were confirmed just yesterday. It’s reported the ship now contains the largest concentration of cases outside mainland china. The quarantine was supposed to end after two weeks and would allow passengers to take commercial air flights home if they tested negative. However, plans have changed as the U.S. evacuated over 300 Americans and are keeping them quarantined for two more weeks on U.S. air bases. So far, fourteen of those people have been diagnosed with the virus. In total, over 71,000 people have been infected with nearly 1,800 killed. The death toll includes five people outside mainland china.
