Ex-Chairman of Nissan Flees Japan Before Trial

The ex-chairman of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, has reportedly fled Japan just months before he was set to stand trial for allegedly mismanaging Nissan’s funds. Ghosn was initially arrested in November of 2018. He has since been detained multiple times and released on bail each time on conditions he stay in Japan. But now Ghosn has fled to Lebanon where he holds citizenship. A decision he made after he believed he faced a trial that was unfair and racially biased. It’s currently unclear how he successfully escaped the country. His lawyers were even surprised by his actions. Ghosn faced a litany of charges in Japan. This includes breach of trust and misappropriating funds. It’s reported Ghosn funneled $5 million dollars of Nissan’s money into a dealership he owned among other things. Ghosn has continually denied all charges.
