McLean, Jasper

Jasper McLean, 87, died Sunday, July 10, 2011 He is survived by his wife, Virginia Blanche Clark McLean; a son, Clyde McLean of Tampa, FL; a daughter, Betty Newton of Laurinburg; a sister, Blanche Lawing of Richmond, VA; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Born March 28, 1924 in the Raemon section of Robeson County, he was a son of the late Rodick Jasper and Blanche Bracey McLean. Jasper served in the US Army Air Corps in World War II, being stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea where he was active in the offensive against Japan. Afterward he worked with Pate‘s in Laurel Hill, and later worked in sales for Sinclair Lumber Co. for over 30 years. After retirement he worked part-time for Security Lock and Hardware until his retirement in August 2010. He was a charter member of Faith Presbyterian Church where he had served as a deacon, treasurer, and Sunday school superintendent. Jasper always had a keen memory of his service in World War II, recalling exact dates and events. He was a historian‘s gold mine. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Presbyterian Church. Burial will military honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. Memorials are requested for Faith Presbyterian Church, 2000 Elm Ave., Laurinburg, NC 28352. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
