Panthers DT Vernon Butler Accused Of Assaulting Woman In Dallas, TX

CHARLOTTE, NC — Dallas Police Department is investigating allegations of assault made by a 21-year-old woman against Panthers tackle Vernon Butler earlier this month.

The incident allegedly happened around 2am on July 14th at a club on Pacific Avenue in Dallas, Texas. Reports say the victim got into a verbal altercation with Butler, and he proceeded to push her and throw a drink in her face.

The victim’s attorney says the incident happened after his client declined advances made by Butler when he saw her at the club that night. Butler had also reportedly been turned down numerous times prior after making repeated advances on social media.

According to the report, the victim was not injured during the altercation.

Dallas Police say the incident is being investigated as a “Class C” assault, which is the lowest level of the crime and is generally described as “offensive contact.”

The investigation even came as a surprise to the Carolina Panthers. On Tuesday, the team’s PR Director, Steven Drummond said they had just learned about the allegations involving Butler and are currently trying to gather more information.

So far, police say no charges have been filed against Butler. If a charge was filed, officials say it would only result in a fine.
