Debating DACA

President Trump continues to haggle with Democrats over legislation regarding DACA recipients and border wall funding.

President Trump believes he is giving Democrats what they want on immigration. The President has offered not just legal residence for DACA recipients, but also a path to citizenship for those who qualify for DACA, but did not apply. In return, President Trump wants billions of dollars to fund a border wall and add additional border security. The President also wants to end chain migration and the visa lottery system. The last attempt at fixing the immigration problem ending in a government shutdown, but Congress was able to re-open the government on a short-term continuing resolution, funding the government through February 8th. DACA is scheduled to end on March 5th following a decision by President Trump back in September. However, earlier in January, a federal judge in California ordered it to continue while challenges work their way through the court system.
