Another Round of Wildfires

The Thomas fire burning northwest of Los Angeles has forced the evacuations of thousands of people.

California is again dealing with widespread, destructive wildfires. Although this time, it’s the lower part of the state. Ventura County, northwest of Los Angeles, is under siege by a fast-growing, fast-moving fire which is expected to burn for days. Tens of thousands of acres have been scorched. High winds are partially blamed for the fire’s rapid acceleration, pushing the flames ever closer to residential neighborhoods. Hundreds of homes are at risk, and many have already been destroyed. The numerous fires have prompted California’s governor to declare a state of emergency. While the fire here in Ventura county is not the only one firefighters are dealing with, it is threatening the most people.
