James E. “Jimmy” Rogers, 70, of Florence passed away Monday, July 4, 2011 at the McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. “God saw him getting tired, A cure not meant to be. So He wrapped His arms around him, and whispered, “Come with Me.” Mr. Rogers was born in Florence, a son of the late James L. and Evie Sellers Rogers. Jimmy retired after 32 years from CSX Railroad Systems and after retirement, he co-owned Tans Bay Auto Sales with his brother, Bobby. He was a Veteran of the US Army and was a member of Elim Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Billy Rogers and Bobby Rogers. Surviving are five children, Randy Turner, Benjie (Renee’) Turner, Kim (Craig) Vause, Josh Wells and Rebecca Wells, all of Florence; two sisters, Jean Gregg and Betty (Wayne) Bazen both of Florence; four grandchildren, Dustin Turner, Breanna Turner, Lauren Vause, and Danielle Moss; a great-grandson Turner Moss; a special friend, Judy Mitchell; several nieces and nephews; and his much loved puppy, “Sophie”. A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, July 7, 2011 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel with visitation immediately following.
