Abrham, Deacon Jake William

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens; A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant, and to pluck up that which is planted; A time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance” Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2,4. Early Sunday morning, June 12, 2011 before the break of day, God called home his Faithful, Dedicated, and Committed Servant to his home in Glory. Deacon Jake William Abraham, ninety-one (91) years old, the youngest son of the late Mr. Walter Abraham and Mrs. Maggie Brunson, born on August 5, 1919 in Bishopville, SC. A union of eight (8) children, all preceded him in death, except his baby sister, Mrs. Rebecca Smalls of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a sharecropper, and in the early 1900’s many Black Americans were not able to attend school. So, Jake worked to help his family. Although he had very little education, he had outstanding work ethics and quality. He always said “if I had a third grade education, I would be the President of the United States”. He couldn’t believe, he lived to see a Black Man as President. At an early age, he devoted his life to Christ and became a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Bishopville, SC and in 1938, after the death of his mother, he came to Myrtle Beach to live with his brother-in-law and sister, Walter and Annabelle Geathers both deceased. In 1939, he became a member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church where we was presently serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board, and served as Treasurer, Trustee, and Usher. The Love of his Life, Mary Magaline Spivey-Abraham, daughter of the late Mr. Sylvester and Mrs. Nettie Spivey was joined in Holy Matrimony, September 7, 1941. Their union was blessed with nine (9) children (two (2) stillborn and their oldest son Jake Delona Abraham (Betty) precedes him in death). He enjoyed sixty- nine (69) years of Love, Devotion, Commitment, Dedication, Praying, Communicating with each other, Serving and Worshipping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Raising children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, Sharing the Word of God to all God children he encountered, Serving in the vineyard of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church (72) seventy-two years and the Shields Chapel FBH Church (62) sixty-two years. “Mary hold on to God’s UnChanging Hand.” Jake A. Abraham, a World War II Veteran, enlisted in the US Army on August 24, 1943 at Fort Jackson, SC. He served in New Guinea, recieved Good Conduct Medal, World War II- Victory Medal, Apt Service Medal-Philippine Liberation GO 23 USAFFE 5 FEB 45 and was given Honorable Discharge, Private First Class, January 23, 1946- Camp Gordon, Georgia. Jake William Abraham is an active member of Ocean View Lodge #325 Prince Hall Affiliation, Myrtle Beach, SC, (70) seventy years of service and recieved Honorary as the oldest Master Mason in the State of South Carolina. Jake loved his children and family, friends and community. To have known him was to love him. After retiring at age 67, he placed a comfortable chair under the carport at his home, where he would sit daily awaiting all who would come to visit or to talk and wave to everyone that pass. He didnt practice any form of discrimination towards Gods children. Before he would take his seat in the chair each day, he rose as early as 5:00 AM to preform his Telephone Call Ministry and write his daily News Journal in his heart. If you called and he didn’t know it, within minutes he would have returned your call. HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNOW HIM………. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Mary; six (6) children, Robert Lee Abraham (Willette) of Bowie MD, Janet D. Abraham of Washington, DC, Mary Ann Willis(Thomas) of Hyattsville MD, Doris Abraham of Myrtle Beach, SC, Annette Perry (Jerome) of Washington, DC, and Hilda A. Bellamy of Washington DC, and Michael Campbell of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Dale Abraham (Claudette) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Machelle Wallace, Cynthia Willis, LaTonya Smith (Terry), Derrick Bellamy (Africa), Larry Bellamy, LaShawn Bellamy, Jovan Perry, Keisha Willis, Reginald Perry, Allen King (Bernice); great-grandchildren, Keith Abraham, Jake and Bryan Wallace, Cynethia Kelly, DeQuan and Travon Smith, Khalia and Julian Willis, Maxwell Brady, Mykah Walker, Briana Singletary, Tatyana, Tyshiek, and Mali Bellamy, Aiden Washington- Perry, Darrell Brown; one (1) one great-great-grandchild, A’mya Page- Wallace; one (1) sister, Rebecca Smalls of Myrtle Beach, SC, and two (2) sister-in-laws, Albertha Ward of New York City, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, family special friends & friends. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Saturday, June 18, 2011 sat Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Arrangements entrusted to Ocean View Funeral Home of Horry County.
