Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 KJV Mr. Joseph Brown, son of Willie and Ivory Ella Cooper Brown was born on June 23, 1923 in Florence County. He departed this life on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina after an illness. He was educated in the South Carolina public schools. He was employed with Adcock Farmer and Supply Company, Navassa lumber mill and Smith Douglas fertilizer companies before his retirement. Mr. Brown was married to Georgiana Swinney Brown and to this union two children were born. Joseph was humble, soft spoken and a peaceable man who dislike confusion. Joseph was well loved by his family and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Joseph was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Bell Small; and three brothers, Fulton, David and James Brown. Left to cherish his memory: a son and daughter; Joe Brown of Darlington, SC; and Gloria Brown Hannah of Florence, SC; five grandchildren, Gwen (David) McCall, Sheila (Anthony) Burgess, Christopher Hannah, Stephanie Brown, and Beverly (Edwin) Small all of Florence, SC; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Gracie Davis of Leland, NC; Nettie Cobb of Wilmington, NC and Evelyn (Willie) Hall of Leland, NC; sisters-in-law, Sarah (Frank) Walker, Harriett Smith, Mary (Lawrence) Lewis and Carolyn Timmons, all of Florence, SC; brothers-in-law, Boykin (Jerrylena) Swinney of Florence, SC and Layton (Sarah) Swinney of Hartsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
