Schrock, Sara
Sara McEnney Schrock, 60, of Pinehurst succumbed to a rare form of cancer and passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday June 12, 2011. Sara attended high school in Morgantown, West Virginia and Severna Park, Maryland where she graduated in 1969. She went on to earn a BFA in Theater from West Virginia University. She has been acting, dancing and singing herself into the hearts of Musical Theatre lovers ever since. After graduation Sara became a flight attendant for United Airlines where she met her husband Ron who was a pilot. While flying for United, she toured with the USO of the Northeast Command performing in the musical Review Stop the World, I want to Get Off which she also choreographed. Sara and Ron lived in Pleasanton CA for 18 years where she was very active in performing as a true ‘triple threat‘ of the musical stage. Sara was a professional award winning actress in the San Francisco area where she took home a coveted Shelly Award for her role as Mama Rose in Gypsy and was nominated for another Shelly for her dynamic portrayal as Phyllis in Follies. Throughout her career Sara entertained audiences across the continent with leading roles as: Irene Molloy in Hello Dolly, Joanne in Company, Mame and Vera in MAME, and Phyllis in Follies and supporting roles in Cabaret, Marat Sade, My Fair Lady, Royal Hunt of the Sun, and The Pajama Game. Sara was also an accomplished choreographer in many of these productions. After moving to Pinehurst, she was cast in numerous NC State theatrical productions where she was featured in: Side by Side with Sondheim, The Countess in A Little Night Music, Fraulein Kost in Cabaret, Miriam in The Women, and was part of I Love a Piano – A Celebration of Irving Berlin as well as revived her role of Phyllis in Follies. Locally Sara was seen at the Sunrise Theater as Quiser in Steel Magnolias, Ethel in Moon over Buffalo, as multiple characters in The Dining Room and in the 2009 Musical Cabaret Here‘s to the Good Life at the Pinehurst Hotel. Sara is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Charles and Elizabeth Adams McEnney and her brother Richard Snader. She is survived by her Husband Ron of 35 years, her step children; Rhonda Andrews of Nenzel Nebraska, Robert and Toni Schrock of Pilesgrove, NJ; Richard and Sandie Schrock of Bradenton, Florida and her precious cats Sushi and Wasabi. A private family ceremony followed by a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
